Now or Always? It’s a hard choice secretive artist Arya Zappa ponders in her new single of the same name. Like previous singles from debut album Dark Windows, the track displays Zappa’s penchant for stripped-down production and a slow 80’s groove. Simple and well balanced the song moves softly from a melancholic verse into an understated chorus made of bright warm synth chords. Written with the guitarist Owen Ross and the Russian artist Polina Kaimel Now or Always sounds every bit as Berlin as the studio it was written in. “The sun’s rising, It breaks my heart, to see the stars fade away” Zappa croons, but her longing is wistful, aware that the past is always present.
