about
"Wild Heart" is the last of the Dark Windows single Trilogy and will be followed by Zappa’s debut album soon. From the first delicate swell of the synths, you are reminded of the New Wave past when anything seemed possible. This is attentively mirrored in the guitar line and Zappa's demure vocal delivery.
"Life is motion, a never-ending flow" we are reassured, setting the scene for a song that moves almost in slow motion.
"If hands could free you, where would you go wild heart" she purrs at a glacial pace, blissfully serene in her own sense of reverie.
In the video we see a red hooded figure submerge various different people of different ages in a bright blue pool. Try to imagine Alexandro Jodorowsky directing a high-end fashion advert. Emerging last is Zappa herself, confidently moving through the water like the tracks bass-line. Moving to the lazy rhythm Zappa's presence is that of an artist in control of where she wants to go and how she's going to get there. The track is meaningful with every decision feeling perfectly balanced, especially in the production where everything is in just the right place.
lyrics
Standing at a fork
Where should you go
Life is motion
a never ending flow
Where does it take you to?
One road ends in tears
When the other one could
relieve your fears
If hands could free you
Where would you go wild heart
If hands could free you
Where would you go wild heart
The world keeps turning
No matter which way you choose
There’ll be kisses
and all the things you’ll lose
Worlds have been built
on tears
But one road
will relieve your fears
If hands could free you
Where would you go wild heart
If hands could free you
Where would you go wild heart
